Egg Tanned Sheepskins At Home - Guidebook

My tanning journey began in the spring of 2022 when our first batch of Navajo Churro lambs headed off to the butcher. While three of the hides went to the tannery, I decided to keep two of the five and set out on the adventure of learning to tan myself. I purchased a guidebook, tanning supplies, and decided to give it a try. 

The journey of learning to tan was full of challenges and failures along the way, but those challenges and failures have made it possible for me to get where I am today. It's nearing two years of tanning and during the course of that time I've tanned my own hides, tanned custom hides, advanced my tanning skills, shed many tears, gotten scars, worked until my hands hurt, but overall, I've had the best time. Tanning hides is allot of work and is full of many challenges, but it's so worth it. Being able to bring these beautiful pieces back to life and honoring the sweet lives of these lambs is what makes it all worth it. 

After a few months of planning and designing, I'm so excited to be able to offer this guidebook to all of you looking to get started tanning your own hides! This guidebook is printable and is 23 pages long with 42 colored photos, including step by step instructions showing you the process of trimming your hide, salting, washing, egging, stretching, smoking, and brushing.

Please note this process works on other small hides such as rabbit, deer, goats, etc!
